1\/17\/2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ok &#8211; so I have been working on cleaning the firewall before I strip it down to bare metal. \u00a0I have used a combination of wax &amp; grease remover, paint thinner, and a heat gun with a scraper. \u00a0Made some progress on the passenger side:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/2016\/01\/firewall-1172016\/img_1800\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2524\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2524\" src=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1800-e1453060918440.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1800\" width=\"757\" height=\"568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1800-e1453060918440.jpg 757w, https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1800-e1453060918440-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 757px) 100vw, 757px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Was able to remove everything from the cowl area. \u00a0There was still some glue from the windshield to remove:<a href=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/2016\/01\/firewall-1172016\/img_1801\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2525\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2525\" src=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1801-e1453060932254.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1801\" width=\"568\" height=\"757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1801-e1453060932254.jpg 568w, https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1801-e1453060932254-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After using some paint thinner and scraper &#8211; also removed some of the paint down to the primer:<a href=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/2016\/01\/firewall-1172016\/img_1805\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2527\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2527\" src=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1805-e1453060958290.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1805\" width=\"757\" height=\"568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1805-e1453060958290.jpg 757w, https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1805-e1453060958290-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 757px) 100vw, 757px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The grease was so bad, I ended up using some Purple Power. \u00a0This is non-flammable so was able to use it with the heater going in the garage. \u00a0Not when I was using the paint thinner, it was warm enough to turn off the heater long enough for the fumes to dissipate. \u00a0I used a mixture of 2 parts water to 1 part purple power. \u00a0Also gave it to applications rinsing it with water after each application a couple minutes later.<a href=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/2016\/01\/firewall-1172016\/img_1804\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2526\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2526\" src=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1804-e1453060943210.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1804\" width=\"568\" height=\"757\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1804-e1453060943210.jpg 568w, https:\/\/dougbratton.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1804-e1453060943210-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As it is now&#8230; \u00a0Note I plugged all of the holes in the firewall to keep it off the primed inside shell. \u00a0The next step this next week is to go back over it with some wax and grease cleaner and see how much grease is left over. \u00a0Might have to use some more purple power with a stronger mix\\ratio. \u00a0Once it is cleaned to my satisfaction, I will strip it down to bare metal &#8211;
